We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine…
I remember singing this a lot as a kid. I’m not sure if it was a big hit in our house because of the generation of my parents or because we’re from Liverpool. Either way, it was a staple in my songbook.
Although I used to sing it a lot I’ve never actually seen the film of the same name. But now The Beatles’ legendary, animated film Yellow Submarine is returning to big screens across the UK and Ireland on 8th July. Picturehouse are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the films original release by remastering the film into 4k and adding surround sound.
In case you don’t know the story of Yellow Submarine here it is in a nutshell. The Beatles take on the music-hating Blue Meanies armed only with the power of love. Combine this hippy-dippy storyline with some mind-bending animation and some of The Beatles’ biggest hits (Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, All You Need Is Love etc) and you have some idea of the technicolour adventure!
Clare Binns – Deputy Managing Director of Picturehouse says:
‘I loved Yellow Submarine 50 years ago and it still rocks the universe. This summer, Picturehouse Entertainment is thrilled to bring The Beatles back to the big screen again with a film that makes your heart beat fast. Bringing the film back for its 50th anniversary is great, both for those who loved it the first time around and for those new singing and dancing audiences who will be introduced to this classic music and animation. I look forward to the huge smiles on faces all across the UK and Ireland on 8 July – as the fab four said, All You Need is Love!’
I’m looking forward to travelling back in time to 1968 to experience this landmark cinematic experience. I know I’ll have a few family members that would love to see it again too, just to revel in the silliness once again.
