4 Tips for Touring your Own City like a Pro

*** This is a collaborative post ***

Do you know all of the best places to visit in your own city? If not, don’t worry – you’re not alone! Most people who live in a city never really take the time to explore it like a tourist, especially living somewhere like London. There are so many great things to see and do right in your own backyard but you never get to experience it because you don’t approach it like a tourist. In this blog post, we’ll give you some tips on how to tour your own city like a pro.

Go To A Hotel Reception Area

It may sound a bit odd, but one of the best ways to find out what’s going on in your city is to go to a hotel reception area. You’ll usually find leaflets and brochures for local attractions, including a lot that you never even knew existed. This is a fun way to discover the best that your city has to offer.

Change Your Travel Style

If you’re used to driving everywhere, why not change things up and walk or ride a bike? This will force you to slow down and really take in your surroundings. You’ll notice things that you never would have noticed before, like unique architecture or interesting storefronts. On the other hand, if you are used to taking the train, consider using cars instead for a few days. When you change the way that you get around, you force yourself to see different areas of the city that you normally wouldn’t pass through.

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Tourist Hotspots

Just because a place is popular with tourists doesn’t mean that it’s not worth visiting. In fact, these are usually the places that you really need to see. Do some research and find out why the tourist hotspots are so popular – there’s usually a good reason. The thing is, when you live in a city, you often avoid these places because of the big crowds, so you miss out. So, if you are planning a staycation in your own city, don’t be afraid to visit all of the big tourist hotspots.

Check Out Online Reviews

When you go to restaurants and bars, do you go to the places that are recommended by friends and family, or maybe the places that are close to home or work? That’s usually how most people decide to go out, or they might simply explore and see what looks nice. But how often do you check review sites for places in your own city? This is what most of us do before traveling to a new place, so why not do it at home too? Checking online reviews can help you find the best places to eat, drink, and visit in your city. You’ll also get a good sense of what places are like, so you can decide whether it is for you or not.

These are just a few tips to help you tour your own city like a pro. The most important thing is to keep an open mind and be willing to explore. You might be surprised at what you find!
