Victory Rolls or Sausage Rolls?

26/07/2015      1 Comment

I mentioned a little while ago that I was going to be on TV. Well my episode of Hair aired on BBC Two on Wednesday night. (You can watch it here if you missed it and are into that sort of thing.) We (myself and six other bloggers) were off to a London Fashion Week launch party at the rather swish Cuckoo Club and the contestants were doing our hair ready for the evening.

Being a bit of a vintage lover I decided to ask for victory rolls. A hairstyle I love but know is pretty tricky to master, because if it wasn’t I’d be throwing my hair up into them on  pretty regular basis. The lovely Maryia that was doing my hair had never attempted them before and was totally nervous about trying them out. She told me that she had asked Sarah (another contestant that specialised in vintage hair) to teach her how to do them but hadn’t had a chance to sit down together to go through it yet. Her hands were trembling so much I couldn’t help but feel for her.

victory rolls or sausage rolls?

The final product wasn’t something I was happy with and you can tell Maryia isn’t either. I’m pretty sure she won’t be trying victory rolls again in a hurry if she doesn’t really need to and, let’s be honest, she has some crazy good braiding skills. I didn’t keep Maryia’s victory rolls in for the party and got them reworked by another one of the bloggers so I felt a bit more comfortable that evening.

After watching the show on Wednesday night I realised that I hadn’t had my hair styled like that since (we filmed in February) and I made an appointment with the very lovely Charley at Rockalily Cuts. She whisked my hair into a mass of curls and added the victory rolls on top. I’m in love with it. She even helped me cover it up with a totally fetching rain hood so it didn’t get ruined in the horrendous downpour on the way home.

I’ll let you in to a secret. My hair is still in them now. I’ve slept in it for two nights now. It’s actually really comfortable and there’s no pins sticking in my head and it just needs a bit of a tidy up to make it look presentable again. I totally tempted not to take it out until tomorrow night but I might have to say goodbye to it later today.

So, not only did I look super swish for the two events I went to over the weekend I drastically cut down the amount of time it’s taken me to get ready. I’m actually considering getting it done again before I head out to Hevy Festival next month. I always struggle with keeping my hair looking presentable when I’m living in a tent for a few nights. There’s a lot of it so it takes ages to dry which means I can’t wash it every day and it just tends to get thrown up into a ponytail. Unimaginative, right?

I don;t think my love of victory rolls is going to fade any time soon. Especially as I now know I have an expert stylist just around the corner!

Kisses,

lojo

P.S. Just in case you haven’ seen the programme I just wanted to make clear I’m not being rude with the title of this post. That’s what the voiceover man said on the show.
