Madness at The Moxy

06/12/2017      15 Comments

Last Thursday I was invited to celebrate the opening of a brand new hotel in Stratford. As I hadn’t seen Stef for a while I recruited her as my plus one and off we headed to The Moxy.

The Moxy is a boutique-style hotel from the Marriott at the more budget end of their spectrum and very much at home in East London. It’s about a five-minute stroll from the station and Westfield and just so damn cool inside.

I’d be really keen to head back and spend a night there. Just to see how it functions day to day.

Back to last Thursday…

Moxy know how to throw a party. The moment we walked through the door, we were handed glasses of prosecco by a couple of topless waiters. This has got to be an early sign that we’re in for a good night, right?

We did a quick lap of the lobby and bar to see what exactly Moxy had to offer and although it was huge it had the perfectly styled, effortlessly cool thing going on. Not so cool that you didn’t feel comfortable but that kind of cool you see in those perfectly curated Air B&Bs that you want to live in forever. Do you know what I mean? I’m probably talking crap, I usually do!

The booze was flowing.

As well as the hunky wandering men with trays of prosecco and, later, rose tequila (which I avoided like the plague!) there were four other bars each with a different speciality plus racks of wine and vodka or Bacardi and coke to help yourself to.  One of the bars was from Larios gin so obviously became my favourite! I had a strawberry and cucumber gin and tonic and it was amazing. I didn’t even know that cucumber tonic was a real thing. Anyway, I was also a fan of the Nespresso bar and the two cocktails they were making over there too. (Pro tip: don’t drink 3 espresso martinis and expect to be able to sleep soon after.)

Eating isn’t cheating.

I’m awful at remembering to eat when I have a drink and I definitely, definitely need to get better at it. If I don’t I’m not going to be allowed out anymore. There were no worries here though. As well as a mega sweet bar (I may have bagged myself some to eat on the way home!) there were nibbles being brought out all night and two sushi chefs working away at the end of the bar. It’s mesmerising watching sushi be rolled. They make it look so easy but it really isn’t. Do you know what it is though? Delicious! I love sushi.

All the fun.

It wasn’t all food and drink though. Moxy had gone all out on the entertainment too. There was a DJ playing a lot of 90s/00s RnB and Tyler Rix played live too. Tyler Rix is an incredible saxophonist and he and his band played some excellent cover versions. We couldn’t help but dance. We weren’t the only ones dancing either as there was an incredible modern ballet performance too. It was incredible to watch. Along with the dancers, there were stilt walkers, models, a photographer with a huge bed and all of the props and a couple of tattoo artists.

Yep, you read that right. There were tattoo artists there, all set up and ready to go. Steph and I had a look through the flash designs that were out on the table and had a little giggle at getting an impromptu tattoo. The next minute I was chatting to Riccardo and planning an avocado on my ankle! It’s about two inches high, in colour and yes, I really like it.

I’ve never woken up after a party with a hangover in my ankle before, but there’s a first time for everything right? We had a great time and I have a permanent reminder of it now! Oh and in answer to the question I get asked the most when people see my ankle – why not an avocado?

I need that last sign for my living room. This looks like awesome fun and I would have been parked by the sweetie bar all night. And I know it’s off topic, but I love your hair!

Oh, that sounds like my kind of place (well, ten years ago, anyway), How cool you can get impromptu tattoos, sweets and alcohol (not to mention scantily clad men) all under one roof!
