How To Spoil Your Other Half On A Melbourne City Break

23/05/2022      Leave a Comment

Melbourne is one of Australia’s most famous cities, alongside Brisbane, Gold Coast, and, of course, Sydney. Interestingly, it’s also a top location for couples, alongside the likes of Paris, New York, and Rio.

But what makes the city so perfect for romantic encounters? Let’s take a look.

It Has Plenty Of Penthouse Suites

When you’re trying to enjoy yourself as a couple, you need space. A small hotel room with an ensuite bathroom just isn’t going to cut it.

Fortunately, Melbourne is home to a wide array of stunning penthouse suites. Many of these come with panoramic views over the city, allowing you to get your bearings and look to new horizons. Nights in a location like this are unforgettable.

Go Flying In A Hot Air Balloon

The sight of hot air balloons flying over Melbourne is unexpected to new arrivals, but it is actually a surprisingly popular pastime in the city. Balloon tours run from the early morning and float high above the prickly-looking skyscrapers below. Views allow you to marvel at the city’s stunning parks, magnificent gardens, and impressive downtown area. The light levels also make it romantic, but be prepared to wake up early to make the most of it.

Picnic In Treasury Gardens

Treasury Gardens in Melbourne have a similar vibe to the small parks and green spaces you find scattered throughout London’s square mile. It’s an oasis of green, surrounded by buildings and skyscrapers of Melbourne central.

If you’re in the area, it’s a great place to go for a picnic. In the morning, you can experience all the benefits of city life, and then, at midday, head to the park for a hearty meal.

If you can’t be bothered to pack and prepare the items you need, you can buy sandwiches and cheese wheels nearby. Don’t forget the champagne flutes.

Find A Beautiful Spot For A Kiss

Laura and Tom

If it’s just you and your partner together in an exciting foreign city, it’s always good to know the best spots for a kiss. After all, you want it to feel romantic. Getting passionate next to a petrol station or roundabout isn’t always easy.

Fortunately, Melbourne has you covered. It’s home to several stunning locations that naturally lend themselves to romantic encounters. For instance, you might want to try under the stained glass at the National Gallery or one of the many hidden paths in the Royal Botanical Gardens. Melbourne rooftop bars, such as the one at Curtin House, is another great option. You can embrace your partner in the evening while looking out over the city’s shimmering lights.

Go On A Private Trip Along The Yarra

Being truly alone in a gigantic city is challenging, but with boat tours along the Yarra, it’s possible. Most of these depart from WTC Wharf near the Crowne Plaza. Once on the boat, you’ll head down the river and view the city’s majestic skyline. Some boats are operated by tour guides as part of larger expeditions, but there are others that you can pilot yourself. The boats are electric and easy to drive, so anyone can become a captain.

Head On Over To The Jazz Club

As you might expect, Melbourne is full of interesting and quirky jazz bars offering a variety of groovy acts, all looking to give you the best vibes. During certain times of the year, there are also jazz festivals that feature a variety of jazz music for you and your partner to enjoy, including big band, fusion jazz and bebop.

Punting On The Lake

In the UK, couples frequently go punting down the River Cam through Cambridge, marvelling at the beautiful colleges along the way. Interestingly, though, a similar experience is available in Melbourne.

Punting starts at Ornamental Lake in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Wooden punts take you and your loved one on a tour of the gardens, with some punters offering information on the plants, wildlife and environment of the area.

Check Out The Melbourne Star Observation Wheel

As remarkable as it might sound, the Melbourne Star Observation wheel is the southern hemisphere’s only giant Ferris wheel. At more than 120 metres tall, it provides panoramic views of the city, rising taller than many of the downtown tower blocks that surround it.

The venue allows you to book a Sparkling Flights package which gives you exclusive use of a private cabin for a more romantic experience. You can also get engaged on the Ferris wheel if you and your partner are not yet engaged.
