Live Review: Young Guns, Scala

20/06/2015      Leave a Comment

I’ve never been to The Scala in King’s Cross before but what a way to be introduced to it! Steph and I headed down there last Monday to catch Young Guns* on their headline tour. It was mental. I’ve never seen a venue where the audience climb the walls to be able to get a good view of the stage before!
Young Guns

Young Guns may not have played a headline show in London since October 2012 but they certainly made up for it. The Scala was packed and everyone was clamouring for a piece of the boys.

They burst onto the stage and charged right through I Want Out before heading straight into Dearly Departed. i don’t know where they get their energy from! They’re like a pack of Duracell bunnies and, to be honest, the crowd aren’t much different. They sang back every word to Gus; he need never worry about forgetting a lyric again!

i was surprised by the wide age range of the crowd too. I’m normally in the upper echelons of the range but not this time. I’d say we were smack bang in the middle. It just proves, everyone loves a bit of Young Guns!

The band’s new album, Ones and Zeros, may have only been released on the day of the show but the songs they played from it may as well have been old classics based on the fans reactions. It’s a more grown up sound from the Buckinghamshire five piece and it looks like the fans appreciate it; the new songs go down almost better than trusty favourites like Crystal Clear and Weight Of The World.

Young Guns undoubtedly know how to command a crowd and this one was completely eating out of the palm of their collective hands from the first beat. These boys made sure London won’t forget them and we definitely hope they won’t leave it so long before they come back next time.

I was actually really lucky to have a catch up with Gus the day after this show and hear how it all went down from his point of view. I’ll be writing that up soon so please do head back to check that out.

Kisses,

lojo
