I know escape rooms have been around for a good old while now but I’ve never actually been to one. It’s something that’s always sounded kind of appealing, I mean, I love a good puzzle. But I’ve just never got around to going to one.
Nerves creeping up on me
We met upstairs in the gin bar of The Hope in Farringdon and gathered ourselves together while we waited for Gabriel, our host for the evening. I did wonder if I’d have time to calm my nerves with a quick snifter but then worried it might dull my senses a bit. That’s the last thing I’d need if I was about to face a room full of riddles!
Once we were summoned upstairs and Gabriel started telling us the story of Lady Chastity, her infamous shindigs and her fabled aphrodisiac wine, I was sucked in. I was determined to get my hands on the last remaining bottle of the special reserve.
Get your thinking cap on
I have to admit, we struggled a bit with the first clue but once we managed to get the ball rolling and work out what we were supposed to be doing we smashed it. So much so that we only used two out of our three possible points of assistance from Gabriel and we still had 5 minutes and 16 seconds left on the clock. Yep, I think I can safely say we were a bloody brilliant team.
We are the champions
I’ve heard this experience described as Crystal Maze on crystal meth and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a more accurate description of something in my life.
I really enjoyed the storyline and had a good few laughs in amongst the head scratching and perplexing clues. It was a brilliant experience for my first escape room and I feel ready to try out a few more. The only thing is the bar has been set sky high, will they measure up?
I was gifted my escape room experience for review purposes but all thoughts and words are my own.
